• The gate drags or scrapes at the free end. This almost always means the hinge welds or the hinge post itself has shifted. A gate sags in the hinge post, not in the middle. If the post is solid and the weld is cracked, that’s a straightforward repair. If the post is moving, you’ve got a foundation problem that welding alone won’t fix.
• A visible crack runs along a weld joint or through the frame. We see these most often where the horizontal rail meets the vertical picket, or where the hinge bracket was welded to the gate frame.
