Which Viking Models This Applies To

K-1200 runs about 5 1/2 by 7 1/2 inches. The older K-1900 is bigger, closer to 7 by 10.

One compatibility gotcha we run into with Viking: the K-1200 and K-1900 speak different wiring languages. The K-1900 uses a dry contact relay output, the K-1200 sends a Wiegand or data pulse straight to the access controller. If you wire a K-1200 where a K-1900 was, the gate may not trigger at all, or it’ll trigger erratically. A second gotcha: Viking uses a 12-24V DC input, but the intercom models want a stronger supply than the keypad-only units. If the power supply is underloaded, the intercom audio fades and crackles. On the parts side, we stock genuine Viking and quality aftermarket equivalents built to the same specs. For the K-1200, the aftermarket units are solid. For the C-200 intercom boards, we often recommend staying OEM because the aftermarket boards don’t always match the impedance on the speaker circuit. What you can safely check on your own: find the breaker or disconnect for the gate and confirm it’s on. Look at the keypad face for cracks or moisture behind the lens. If you’re comfortable with a screwdriver, you can remove the faceplate and look for obvious corrosion or loose terminals. That tells you what’s wrong. It doesn’t tell you how to fix it, and Viking keypads run low-voltage DC, so the shock risk is low but shorting the wrong terminals can take out the gate operator board too, and that’s a $400 mistake.
